Wi-Fi in schools. Is it safe?

This is a really serious issue, particularly as increasing numbers of schools are installing WiFi, potentially exposing children to harmful radiation.

Disappointingly, there have been no moves in this country to follow the growing trend around the world for countries to ban or restrict Wi-Fi in nurseries and schools. Nations including Canada, Israel, Italy and France have all legislated to try to reduce the impact on children.

In May 190 scientists from 39 nations submitted an appeal to the United Nations, UN member states and the World Health Organization (WHO) requesting they “adopt more protective exposure guidelines for electromagnetic fields (EMF) and wireless technology in the face of increasing evidence of risk.” Their press release explains more https://www.emfscientist.org/images/docs/EMF_Scientist_Press_Release.pdf.

Parents in the US state of Massachusetts are suing their son’s school because of the impact that they believe Wi-Fi is having on his health http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-3210629/Parents-sue-elite-private-school-say-Wi-Fi-signal-making-son-9-sick.html

We hope this issue will be taken more seriously and that measures are taken in this country to try to reduce harm. Simple things like turning off the Wi-Fi when not in use, careful consideration of where routers are placed, and ideally installing hard -wired systems rather than Wi-Fi, can make a huge difference.

The potential health problems are all the more worrying when research such as this shows that computers ‘do not improve pupil results’ http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-34174796

Sensitivity to electromagnetic radiation varies from person to person, but if it’s an issue you are worried about, why not talk to your child’s school about what changes they could make? At home, turn your Wi-Fi off at night or whenever it’s not in use and consider investing in a smartDOT to harmonise the radiation emitted.
